CONTEST OVER! THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED!! CONGRATS TO MARCI, COMMENT #70!!!

Strider

I had the opportunity to review one of the Strider Running Bikes. They are quite different from the "normal" everyday bike, that is for sure! When we received it, my son was VERY excited, what little child would not be? My husband was home, so we took it out of the box and my husband adjusted the seat to my sons height. It was night time, so we let our son just kind of troll around the house on it. But the next day is where the fun came in! We received the Strider Running Bike in Orange.

Strider

It was a beautiful day outside and we went outside and my son was very unsure of this thing :) He kept saying, but it does not have pedals! I can't do it, it is broken, hahaha! I had to convince him that that is how it is suppose to be! So, finally, after a bit more coaxing, he decided to go down our gravel driveway. Probably not the best place to take this for a spin on the first try, because he fell :( But he got right back up and tried again (that's my boy!) He ended up having lots of fun on this bike. Though he still tells me we need to get pedals on it, he really likes it.

Don't mind the helmet, that is not his, LOL!

My Boy

And just because she was feeling left out (by the way, the seat can be adjusted for her too!)

Sissy

What exactly is the Strider Bike? (taken off their site):

As a parent of two boys, Ryan McFarland became frustrated with the drawbacks of traditional beginner’s bikes.

"Tricycle tip-overs" and "training-wheel wobbles" create a fear, hesitancy, and dislike of bike riding.  And, after tinkering with several ideas, the answer hit Ryan: Balance and coordination should be taught before pedaling.

Yes, the traditional methods of learning to ride a bike have it backwards.  Tricycles and training wheels place too much of the focus on learning to pedal.

Reverse course.

Bike riding becomes a breeze when you teach your child balance and coordination before pedaling.

The Strider™ running bike has been meticulously designed to teach your child balance and coordination.  From its lightweight design to its center of gravity and low seat height, the Strider™ is a bike your child can easily control.  And most importantly, the Strider™ is a bike that will develop glittering confidence and a lifelong love for bicycling.  Dare we say it will become your child's favorite toy?

I just ran in circles [as my husband looked on and shook his head at me] and fell down.....reason 1 being because I have been eyeing this bike for my boys for a long time, and reason 2 because I was uber dizzy!

I like that my daughter won't worry about falling over.

8. chris   |   Tue Sep 22, 2009 @ 07:51AM

9. Bethany   |   Tue Sep 22, 2009 @ 08:06AM

I love that it is a maintenance free type of design! I didn't even realize that "tricycle tip-overs" are a thing but now that I see that, we do have that problem...

20. Lori  |  my website   |   Tue Sep 22, 2009 @ 10:51AM

I love strider bikes -- especially the fact that they do allow for smaller children to ride. It also looks like they could be easily retrofitted to handle snow -- something that we need up here where the white stuff is on the ground six months/year.

33. bococamum   |   Tue Sep 22, 2009 @ 12:29PM

our little guy is coordinated and daring, but too small for most of the balance bikes which are taller and heavier. one of these in orange (just like riley's!) would be perfect for him!

34. amy p   |   Tue Sep 22, 2009 @ 12:35PM

I learned that Bike riding becomes a breeze when you teach your child balance and coordination before pedaling. The Strider takes pedaling out of the mix so that kids can concentrate solely on learning balance, which takes more practice. Pedaling is a secondary skill that kids can easily learn within a few short minutes
